#ThisGirlCan Campaign

I have just started to see #ThisGirlCan a national campaign which has been launched by Sports England and a range of partnership organisations. I love it! What a fantastic campaign. I found their website, Instagram account and YouTube channel inspirational.

I’m now a follower and subscriber! I would encourage you all to check it out.

The company motto/mission is:

“This Girl Can is here to inspire women to

wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement

is a barrier that can be overcome.”

For me, one of the things that make this campaign so powerful is how they’ve used real women from all agea and backgrounds. There’s been no airbrushing, no photoshopping. At the moment they have four normal everyday women being used to inspire; Grace, Kelly, Julie and Victoria.

Grace vs Pace

Age: 22

Home: London

Occupation: Student

Activity: Cycling

"I just kind of build it in to my everyday life, so sometimes I could go just around the corner and then other times I can go two miles, three miles, wherever."

Kelly vs "Mummy!"

Age: 31

Home: Bury

Occupation: Taking care of her three little ones

Activity: Living room exercise classes

“The kids enjoy exercising with me. When I put on my work out video or put the music on, they just instinctively join in.”

Julie vs Inhibitions

Age: 33

Home: Manchester

Occupation: Accident and Emergency Nurse

Activity: Zumba

“You just feel like you can shout, scream, dance and sing."

Victoria vs Sweat

Age: 29

Home: London

Occupation: Paediatric Nurse

Activity: Spinning

“The more you do, the more you enjoy how bad you look, because you know you’ve worked really hard to look that bad.”

These women are involved in everyday sports, running, swimming, zumba! They are not the best at it, they’re not the fastest or the strongest. But the key thing is, they are doing it, they’re getting active, they’re having fun and they’re getting out there and giving it a go.

“Fear of judgement is stopping many of us from taking part in exercise.

But as thousands of women up and down the country are proving, it really doesn’t have to.”

I really hope this campaign works and that it does inspire more women and girls to get involved in being active and doing sports.

They have my full support!
