Tomorrow’s People - Motivational Talk

I was delighted to go and talk to a group of seven young people aged between seventeen and twenty one at Dovecot Multi-Cultural Centre. They are currently involved in a ten week program called “Working it Out”. The course helps to increase confidence, motivation and provides assistance in getting young people ready to take the next step into further training or paid employment.

Working It Out has been running since 2007 and has so far helped 176 young people into employment, education or training. They learn essential skills such as communication and teamwork, as well as gaining qualifications in first aid and health and safety. The team also provides practical help with CV writing and interview techniques.

I met a great group of young people; they’re currently in their 5th week and half way through the program. It was a great opportunity to tell them more about some of the different experiences I’ve had and to provide them with the encouragement to go after their dream job, or to continue gaining skills and education.

It was a lovely atmosphere, to start everyone went round and introduced themselves and after my introduction I then talked them through what it was like to climb Kilimanjaro the highest mountain in Africa, run in the London Marathon and spending a summer working at an America summer camp.

The feedback was really positive and everyone enjoyed the session and was inspired!

“Sarah inspired me to think in a more positive way about opening up to other opportunities”

“The session was GREAT!”

Eddy and Hannah who run the program have invited me back to speak again with their next group!
