How can you kill candida?

There are three things that need to be done to treat candida and you need to do them ALL at the same time.

  • Stop the yeast overgrowth

  • Build up friendly bacteria

  • Heal your gut (to stop the candida being able to enter your blood stream)

Stop the yeast overgrowth.

One of the best ways to do this is to manage your diet.

Sugar feeds yeast. You need to starve the yeast, by starving it of its food source.

Therefore you need to control the amount of sugar you are consuming and follow a low carbohydrate diet.

All forms of sugar need to be cut from the diet, not just processed sugars. This means no alcohol, no honey, no sweets, no chocolate, no cakes, no cookies, no ice-cream, no sugary drinks and a key one that most people forget is fruit (including fruit juices).

Fruit has a very high sugar content (the sugar is in the form of fructose). I stopped eating all fruits, apart from berries. I would only eat, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, I would also try to ensure I wasn’t having fruit in the morning and not every day.

I had already cut out complex carbohydrates, if you haven’t done this already you need to cut out;- bread, pasta, white potatoes, grains etc.

This is the only way to kill off the candida. See my blog post - No Sugar & No Yeast for 3 weeks.

I would trial it for three weeks. But it may take you longer, remember every body is different and people will respond in different ways. I think I was quicker, as I’d already cut out processed foods, alcohol and carbohydrates. It could take a lot longer if these are still stable parts of your diet.

Build up friendly bacteria

This is actually relatively easy to do.

  • Start taking a good quality probiotic in the morning.

  • Start having miso soup twice a day. A spoonful, in a mug with cold water. It tastes a little salty but its not to horrific.

Heal your gut

- to stop the candida being able to enter your blood stream.

To do this there are certain foods that are really good for your gut. I will list them below. But remember everyone is different you need to see which ones work for you.

The best ones I've found are; garlic, onions, leeks & ginger
