100,000 Downloads of the Tough Girl Podcast & what I've learned on the way!

I actually can’t believe it!! I started this journey so long ago back on the 4th August 2015. During that time there's been high points and low points. Times I wanted to quit and give up as I felt I wasn’t making any progress. One of the things this journey has taught me is that you have to have patience, you have to be consistent and you have to put in the work if you want to create anything. It’s not magically going to happen!!

I have now interviewed over 60 women from all walks of life. I have interviewed explorers, adventurers, athletes, olympians, grandmothers, cancer survivors, runners, swimmers & cyclists to name a few.

I wanted to share the untold stories, the stories that don’t get heard.

The stories that go unnoticed because the stories are from women.

We all know women don’t get the support they need from the media or from companies. Women are under represented and under funded. I could have sat back and just complained about this. But that wasn’t going to change anything.

I want to change things.

I want to increase the amount of female role models in the media.

I want to inspire women and girls to go after their dreams.

I want them to know there are women out there who are doing just that. I want them to hear the stories, learn from their failures and their successes. I want them to embrace their fears, I want them to go after their dreams and I want them to really live.

Knowing that the Tough Girl Podcast has been listened to over 100,000 times gives me the faith that I am on the right track and that these stories have an audience.

This now puts the Tough Girl Podcast in the top 17% of all podcasts around the world. Over the next six months my aim to get into the top 15% of podcasts! Which means I now need to average around 3,000 downloads per episode.

I will continue on this podcast journey, as I aim to inspire even more women and girls.

What I’ve learned so far from podcasting in no particular order!

  • Just start, stop worrying about what other people think and just do it

  • You will learn as you go along

  • When you know better, do better. I didn’t introduce myself properly until the 3rd or 4th episode

  • Be consistent with your content. I publish episodes every Tuesday without fail. Tuesday at 7 am a new episode of the podcast is released. It does not matter what your schedule is, do what works for you.

  • Hard work does pay off. It takes time to build anything so be patient.

  • Ignore the haters, focus on what your doing

  • Engage with your listeners - create a closed Facebook group where they can connect to one another

  • Promote your podcast as often as you can; via word of mouth, twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, tumblr, Instagram, Youtube etc

  • Get your podcast distributed on as many different platforms as possible. E.g. iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Google Plus, IHeartRadio, Youtube etc

  • Celebrate all the milestones and enjoy the journey. Celebrate your 10th episode, your 100th episode. Celebrate your 100th download, your 1000th download, your 10,000 download. They all count!!

  • Have fun with it! Do what works for you - no intro music - that’s ok! You want to do quick fire questions - that’s ok as well!

  • Do what works for you - be AUTHENTIC!!!!
