Such a stunning walk today, beauty in every view.

⏰ I left around 10 am and arrived at the cabin at 3pm ish

The cabin is quite small and a little bit claustrophobic- it’s one large room for eating and sleeping there are two large bunk beds, which can sleep quite a few people. I needed some space tonight and it seemed a shame to have carried a tent all this way and not get to use it!

⛺️ I set my tent up on the platform overlooking Cathedral Mountain, my tent isn’t free standing but the platform has these hooks and chains that you can attach your tent to. It’s actually worked out really well. I can hear the sound of the waterfall in the distance otherwise it’s very peaceful and quiet.

💦 I wandered down to check out the small waterfall close by. There is a little creek with a bridge crossing over it. The water looks clear. I’m sure it’s fine to have a dip in... I’m just worried about leeches!!!

The afternoon was very chilled, chatting with other hikers and spending some time sorting out my food sacks to see what I’ve got left to last me.

🚽 I’m also running low on toilet paper which isn’t the best, I may need to swap some of my food for some toilet paper!!

🥾 My boots are taking a real battering and The duct tape hasn’t really held up that well against the terrain and most of it has fallen off. One of the rangers thinks he has some gaffer tape that he’ll be able the give me in the morning.

I’m sure the shoes will make it to the end of the trip! Fingers crossed!

🥶 I’m a little worried about how cold it will get tonight while sleeping. I’ve got my layers on, got my sleeping bag liner & sleeping bag! I’m sure I’ll cope!!!

💤 I was in bed around 8.30pm in the evening just after it went dark! Hiker midnight at its best!! Time for some rest and recovery.

2️⃣interesting facts…

▶️Kia Ora is an informal Maori greeting - like ‘hi’
