Adventurer, Paula Reid, believes in living life to the full and the 116 achievements from her ‘bucket’ list to date include sailing around the world, skiing full distance to the South Pole and paddling 600 miles down the Mekong River in a dugout canoe.
Her next challenge involves physical fitness, friends and philanthropy in ‘50 Good Turns’ whereby Paula plans to cycle across all 50 European Countries, with 50 different friends and with the aim to do ‘one good deed’ in each country.
Not yet knowing what the Good Deeds will involve, Paula is prepared to take on anything – thinking that some charitable events will be planned and potentially lasting a few days, and some may be spontaneous and reactive, depending on her encounters along the way.
A few friends have already signed up to accompany her – Holland, Monaco and San Marino being some of the more popular requests! Friends so far who have committed include: Alex Alley (her partner who is planning to break the solo, non-stop round-the-world sailing record), Newall Hunter (Grand slam adventurer who has summited all 7 summits in 7 continents and skied to both Poles) Julian Thomas, Headmaster of Wellington College (whom she met skiing to the South Pole), and the Coxless Crew (a team of women who recently rowed the Pacific), so she is in good company. So far Russia and Switzerland have yet to be chosen and she’s not sure whether she will be allowed to cycle across the Vatican City!
Paula launched this challenge in September 2016 with a solo cycle down the length of Britain – from John O’Groats to home on the South Coast, covering a distance of 800+ miles. She did this in just over 11 days, helping the homeless on route and camping most nights. She completed Malta in December and worked with autistic children. In May she plans to cycle across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
