Start Date: 28th August
Start of trail: Community Centre on Vatersay
Route: 253km/157miles - The route begins on the island of Vatersay, and visits Barra, Eriskay, South Uist, Benbecula, Grimsay, North Uist, Berneray and Harris and Lewis, finishing in the capital, Stornoway.

End Date: 5th September
End of trail: Lewes Castle, Stornoway - there is also the option to carry on to the Butt of Lewis - but this is not officially part of the walking route.

Days on Trail: 9 days

Subjective Feeling out of 10 - Terrain (10 is the hardest - 1 is the easiest): 53/90 = 59% - it felt hard! Some of the terrain was really tough going on your feet - bogs and road - with a few sandy beaches.

It's a bit more difficult to get accurate stats for this trip as it was done in two sections. There was also crossover with food resupply and accommodation for other trips. So I've tried to do the best with the numbers and make it as accurate as possible.

Travel from: Stornaway, Outer Hebrides to Aviemore
Travel: ⛴Ferry at 2pm, 🚎Bus at 5pm, 🚝Train at 6.30pm

This trail was done in 2 sections:

7th Sept - 10th September - Aviemore to Buckie (65 miles)
15th September - Aviemore to Newtonmore (17 miles)

🗓Days on Trail: 5 days (but really 4 as day 1 was a travel day and I only walked 3 miles in the evening)

Average spend each day on hike:
Working on a 5 day hike - £34.60. For a 4 day hike £43.25* this does seem expensive for such a short hike. I did do a big food shop £32 but that also lasted me for the EHW as well.

Below is based on 4 days not 5 (as the first day I only waled 3 miles)

I thought this was a great hike and I’d really recommend it for new hikers. The terrain and the elevation is very friendly. There’s lots of options for wild camping as well as many options for resupply along the route.
