The final stretch! 🎉 After weeks on the GR10, these last days carried me through the Pyrenees to the finish line — tired legs, full heart, and plenty of memories.

Descent: 921m

Total Distance 786/955km 82% Done ✅

💰Costs: .€39 food shop

€100 hotel - didn’t want to spend this but sometimes you do need to throw money at a problem - which is why you have emergency funds for situations like this.

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 8/10

Fatigue: 3/10

Ease of terrain: 3/10

⭐️Highlights: met Callie on the trail - British/French girl who was awesome to chat to.

🏔️Challenges: made amazing time for the first part of the day but then got stuck in the final town where I needed to buy food. I was waiting for the shop to open at 4 pm which totally screwed me for the amount of miles that I want to do later on. Plus by 5pm the clouds were coming in and it wasn’t a good idea to head up into the mountains. Plus I needed to charge electronics - it was stressing me out not having full battery packs. At least now my battery packs will last me until the end and I have food and hopefully I’ll have a good night sleep in the night.

💭Thoughts: this day has really messed up all my planning and I need to reassess for the next 5/6days on how to get to the finish.

Ease of terrain: 4/10

⭐️Highlights: great day of walking, really pleased with the distances covered. The views were incredible and the weather was perfect!

🏔️Challenges: none - I hope I sleep well tonight, as the past few nights haven’t been great.

💭Thoughts: what a day… but I think I’ve gone a bit brain-dead - no thoughts 💭 which sounds strange but does happen occasionally! It’s a very simple existence - walk - eat - sleep - repeat 🔁

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 9/10

Fatigue: 2/10

Ease of terrain: 6/10

⭐️Highlights: doing a really big day - long distances, long of elevation gain and loss. I did well. 🤗

🏔️Challenges: night hiking - I arrived at a cabin (which was locked due to bed bugs) and there was only space for 1 tent - which had already been taken, so I need to carry on walking - night hiking is not my favourite thing to do!!!

💭Thoughts: not much further to go now! The ks are ticking on-over!

💰Costs: €0 🥳🥳🥳

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 9/10

Fatigue: 3/10

Ease of terrain: 5/10

⭐️Highlights: a really solid day of hiking. I feel as I’ve just been through so many very types of terrain it’s all merged into one please to reach the camping spot just before it got dark that was a real highlight. As I didn’t want to do any night hiking today

🏔️Challenges: the food shop was shut as it was a Sunday.

I forgot to collect water in the town and ended up doing a 700 m climb with no water which was brutal in the heat.

Finally managed to pass a spring and get some water, but all the streams on this side of the valley have dried out. For the past couple of days I’ve only been needed to carry 1 L of water at a time as has been so much water available. But the next water source I filled up with 3 L and I’m so glad I did as there was no more water on the whole stretch.

💭Thoughts: I don’t think this final section gets enough credit. It is really very beautiful obviously all the tourism goes to the high Pyrenees (which I do understand) but more people should visit these mountains as well. They are stunning and well worth a visit..

Day 36🥾Trekking the GR10 - Through the French 🇫🇷 Pyrenees: Le Sentier des Pyrenees.

ℹ️Stats:

Weather: sunny & rainy in the afternoon

From: just past Coll de Sant Martí

Start time: 8.50am

To: Le Chalet de l’Albère

End time: 8.20pm

Accommodation: camped

Terrain: mountain paths & tracks, forest, 1 longish road section

Cicerone guidebook stages: 2nd half of stage 53 & stage 54

🥾Km: 37.10

🥾Miles: 23

🦶Steps: 47,248

Ascent: 1208m

Descent: 1608m

Total Distance 930/955km 97% Done ✅

💰Costs: €36 final food shop!

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 7/10

Fatigue: 5/10

Ease of terrain: 4/10

⭐️Highlights: it probably sounds strange to say that there wasn’t any real highlights. I think it was because of the weather it was very misty. it was cold. It was difficult to take photos and film. It was more a case of just getting the kilometres done as quickly as possible.

🏔️Challenges: this morning I remember saying into the GoPro I feel very confident now that I will be finishing tomorrow which feels fantastic. I think as soon as I said that it was like mentally my body decided to switch itself off.

It’s like I started to relax so I got a headache. My stomach started playing up, my blisters started throbbing, my left knee started whingeing - everything came out of nowhere. Then it started to rain! 🌧️

💭Thoughts: one final push tomorrow the final 25 km and then I will finish the GR 10.

I do need to travel into Spain as I’m catching an early flight on the following day so I need to make sure that I get to the town relatively early.

I plan to leave at 8 am. You’ve probably realised - me leaving before that time just never works out.

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 7/10

Fatigue: 6/10 - starting to feel much more tired now. I think it’s because it’s the end of the trip

Ease of terrain: 3/10

⭐️Highlights: it’s always exciting to finish another adventure/challenge. But one of the things I have learned over the years is not just to enjoy the end but to also enjoy the journey. The joy is in the process.

So it is just another day, even though it’s a special day as its the completion of a challenge I set myself to celebrate 10 years of the the tough girl podcast - so it is nice to reach this point!

🏔️Challenges: the trains are not running! It’s going to be fun getting to the airport…. In Spain 🇪🇸 a little bit of a nightmare to be honest.

I had to walk to the train station to find out the trains weren’t running, to walk back to the office tourism, tried to get on the bus. They didn’t accept card payments only accepting cash. I ran to the cashpoint and the bus left.

I needed to wait another hour to get the next bus and then it was 90 minutes to Perpignan. luckily the trains are running even though the train I need has been delayed by 45 minutes.

But I have my hotel booked and I’ve checked in for my flight. ✅

💭Thoughts: so happy to be at the hotel which is super close to the airport. Ready for my flight tomorrow 🥳

👉 And that’s a wrap on 37 days across the French Pyrenees! Thank you for following the journey — I hope it inspires your own adventure on the GR10 🥾🇫🇷✨
