What I've learned from the past 8 Weeks

I’ve really enjoyed the past few weeks and feel as though I've gained the following:-

  • I’ve increased my knowledge about weight lifting and power lifting.

  • I know more about technique and what the correct form is I should be using to do the various moves, such as sumo dead lifts, back squats, front squats etc.

  • I know I need to keep pushing myself and keep challenging myself to continue to lift heavier weights.

  • I’ve surprised myself, when I’ve tried to lift heavier and I’ve managed to do it. Sometimes you just need to give it a go to see if you can do it or not. You may even surprise yourself when you lift something you didn’t think was possible.

  • I’ve learnt I need to be patient when I’m lifting. I need to give my body a chance to recover; this is true for the rest and recovery days and also in between sets. I struggled with this at first as I wanted to be busy. I wanted to be moving. I wanted to be doing something. Just having to sit there and wait was difficult.

  • I’ve learnt to keep striving towards my end goal, even if I think I’m not going to be able to achieve it. I started to doubt I would be able to do an unassisted pull up, I couldn't see how I was going to make the transition from using a support band to not having any band.

  • I would describe myself as very self-motivated and I can push myself hard, but every once in a while you need to have someone on your side, someone cheering you on. Skooby did this for me and helped to push me harder.

  • I love being physically stronger, I like having muscle definition. Especially in my arms and on my stomach.

  • I don’t want to be skinny anymore, I want to be strong.

  • I no longer care that much about the weight on the scales.

  • I want to continue with what I’ve started. I want to build a hard, toned body. I want people to look at me and know I’ve had to work hard to get the body I have.

  • I want to continue to push myself physically. I believe the body is an incredible machine and we can achieve huge things with it, if we continue to try.

  • I know if I continue to make the right decisions, with regards to exercise and fitness and my food choices I’ll be able to get the body I want.

  • I know every once in a while, I’ll have a blip and I won’t be perfect. But I’m not going to let that stop me from moving forward. Progression not perfection.

  • I’ve done eight weeks of training and I remember the quote, "it takes four weeks for you to notice your body changing, eight weeks for your friends and family to notice your body changing and twelve weeks for the rest of the world to see". I’m really excited about where I’m going to be by week twelve.
