Enjoyment: 4/10

⭐️Highlights: it stopped raining long enough for me to set up the tent.


🏔️Challenges: I was just so wet all day long. My waterproofs gave up! It got miserable. I took like 3 pictures as I didn’t want to get my phone wet.


💭Thoughts: it’s so close to the end. I’m feeling done with the North Island. I’ve checked the weather for the next few days. It’s going to be windy - but fingers crossed no rain.

Enjoyment: 6/10

Fatigue: 8/10

Ease of terrain: 4/10


⭐️Highlights: Escarpment Track was really fun! Loved the swing bridges in the wind!


🏔️Challenges: feeling very tired.


💭Thoughts: just a few more days to go! Final push!


 


Day 48/50 🥾Te Araroa Trail - The North Island 🇳🇿

Weather: Sunny & windy 🌬️

From: Camp Elsdon

Start time: 8.20am

To: Wellington

End time: 5pm

Accommodation: 4 bed dorm - bottom bunk

Terrain: stairs, grassy paths, farmland, forest sections.


🥾Km: 30.4

🦶Steps: 39,080

🚗Hitch to old coach road - Bridget 🙏 6k - whose daughters listened to the Tough Girl Podcast 😊


Total Km: 1704/1715 = 99% ✅


💰Costs: $6.50 cable car down into Wellington

$55 food resupply New World.

$36 accommodation (2 nights)

total = $97.50


Subjective feeling out of 10 on:


Enjoyment: 7/10 - a good day 🥳

Fatigue: 6/10 - I just more tired now - it is what it is

Ease of terrain: 5/10


⭐️Highlights: all of today was great (getting a hitch and avoiding the road walking helped) . Stunning views walking into Wellington. Reaching Wellington!!!


🏔️Challenges: the 700+ stairs at the beginning were a ‘fun’ way to start the day! 😂


💭Thoughts: Final 11k of the North Island tomorrow 🥳 excited to see some of the street art as well. 🎨


 

Day 49/50 🥾Te Araroa Trail - The North Island 🇳🇿

ℹ️Stats: Tuesday 19th December

Weather: hot & sunny ☀️

From: Wellington

Start time: 9am

To: Wellington!

End time: 2.30pm

Accommodation: The Cambridge Hotel (backpacker section) 4 bed dorm.

Terrain: Southern Walkway - nice route, through forests, playing fields, roads and towns with stunning views.


🥾Km: 22

🦶Steps: 28,109


Total Km: 1715/1715 = 100% ✅


💰Costs: $2.50 bus fare back to centre

$32 food resupply


Subjective feeling out of 10 on:


Enjoyment: 8/10 lovely day - lovely weather

Fatigue: 5/10 - stopped at 11.30am for an hour - to sunbath and read.

Ease of terrain: 5/10 a few steep climbs.


⭐️Highlights: being in the hills and being able to look down on the city and see the coast.

🚎Super easy to get the bus back to the city (bus 1). I sat on the top deck and had great views.


🏔️Challenges: none.


💭Thoughts: a really nice walk to finish off the North Island. Really pleased the weather was good as well - it made all the difference.


 

Day 50/50 🥾Te Araroa Trail - The North Island 🇳🇿

ℹ️Stats: Wednesday 20th December

Weather: sunny ☀️ & windy 🌬️

From: Wellington City - Cambridge Hotel

Start time: 12pm

To: Port Melbourne

End time: 6.30pm

Accommodation: blow up mattress on the floor

Terrain: 3 min walk, bus 26 mins, plane ✈️ 4hrs, 13 mins from the plane to the exit at the airport, car 🚗 30 mins , Port Melbourne, Bro’s home 🏡


💰Costs: $10 bus to airport (really efficient and cheap)


⭐️Highlights: getting from the place, through immigration and bio security checks in 13 mins. A new record for me. It helped only having 1 bag for hand luggage.


🏔️Challenges: none - everything went to plan


💭Thoughts: I’m pleased to be taking a little break (10 days) massive shout out to everyone who is carrying straight on. I need some down time, and time to reflect on the North island and to close this chapter off.
